Hurricane Ike

Starting to get a bit of rain, we've had heavy wind all day. The power will probably go out on this one, since we're on the "bad" side of it. Isn't this time of year great?

Was it Ike or some other storm that they said it was gonna break some records?

Anyway be safe, dont be a hero!!!!!!We want you back when the power come back on.

Hraesvelg 09-12-2008 10:28 PM

There are a lot of people who just totally lose their minds when a hurricane gets close. Watching news reports makes you think Neptune himself is sending Krakens in to rape puppies or something. They're hysterical. Granted, those directly in the path should be concerned, but people overreact. Our local parish council didn't issue even a voluntary evacuation for this one, even though this is is just about as close and we're on the strong side this time, as opposed to Gustav, where they issued a "mandatory" evac order. Its very frustrating.

Zwivix 09-12-2008 10:30 PM

Yeah its just like the Fires here in So Cali...Every year the news makes it seem like Hades arose to punish us with his fire( and rape puppies >.>). Still, have fun at home ^^

Yosei 09-12-2008 11:35 PM

I heard on the news that people in Texas are ordered to evacuate. Are you in Texas? Or just near the storm?

What category is the storm anyways?

Hraesvelg 09-13-2008 12:03 AM

I'm on the border of Louisiana and Texas on I-10. That link in my first post gives a good amount of information about current conditions. Its currently a Cat. 2. Galveston is going to get smacked around like a red-headed stepchild, but I'll be about 100ish miles from where it comes ashore if the current models hold true.

I remember when Simi had a fire... and I got a Fire Day off of school because my house was right next to the freeway where it happened. 8D

Scared me so bad though ._.

Lady-Loki 09-13-2008 02:50 AM

Just keep an eye on it and stay safe!

Yosei 09-13-2008 03:06 AM

Most of my family lives in Houston ._.

Hraesvelg 09-13-2008 03:29 AM

Your family is going to get wet. Well, getting wet. Just like here. Pretty decent little storm we've got going on. We're not quite to the "We have cows!" level, but we still might lose power.

secbro20 09-13-2008 04:57 AM

Gas prices have gone up already by 60 cents here. Yay!

Yosei 09-13-2008 05:41 AM

I heard Virginia was the first state to get to $5.00?

Hraesvelg 09-14-2008 03:36 PM

OK, not much damage, a few boards here and there. Lots of tree limbs. We still haven't got power (yay generator). All and all, not so bad.

Lady-Loki 09-14-2008 03:38 PM

Yay! Good thing you have the generator. And apparently no major flooding, which is also good. Hope the power is restored soon. Good Luck!

Yosei 09-14-2008 03:41 PM

Most generators are for powering lamps or refridgerators ._.

Now its coming for my state!

Pesty 09-14-2008 03:50 PM

I heard Arkansas had something like $8.00 a gallon ._.
That almost makes me thankful for me $5 a gallon >.<

Hraesvelg 09-14-2008 09:53 PM

Yeah, our generator is hooked up to a window AC unit and the refrigerator. I briefly ran the computer earlier in the day to get news and such (and of course to post a few things). I'm currently at my grandmother's house washing some clothes (she has power, obviously.)

Ralath 09-14-2008 09:54 PM

:zomg:

What?!!!?!??!?

You're telling me you don't use a washboard and soap??????????

:zomg: :gasp: :zomg:

Hraesvelg 09-14-2008 09:59 PM

I had to take a bath out of a bucket last night, don't start with me, LOL

Cold shower FTW.

Yosei 09-15-2008 12:10 AM

The one time we went through a hurricane, we went to stay at a hotel while we waited for the people to turn on the power in our side of the city. We had a tree in our kitchen. My sister was supposed to take my school supply shopping, but took me to the house and left me there all day in the heat ._. hurricanes aren't fun.

booyah8876 09-16-2008 12:56 AM

Hurricane Ike just hit us in Ohio.

For the last 2 days we had no internet, cable, tv, and other things.

Trees are broken down smashing cars, someone's house got hit...

The hospital I work in was out of power for over 12 hours completely.

The backup generators only held the life essential equipment online, other than that, we moved everything from the fridges, into the freezers.

If this was only half the windspeed and hardly any rain... I think I'll avoid any hurricanes in the future.

Hraesvelg 09-16-2008 02:11 AM

Still without power at the homestead and camped out at my grandmother's. At least now I have my own PC rig set up. Power should be restored by Thursday. I'll take a hurricane every blue moon vs. iced over roads. I was in the Cinci area one time when it iced over. Driving was insane. I also understand its a regular occurance. Count me out. I guess my point is...mother nature is a right royal pain in the ass no matter where you live.

booyah8876 09-16-2008 03:16 AM

Hahaha yeah every winter "black ice" is all over the roads... just walking some days like I did once from school was fun. I didn't see the patch of ice, walked right over it, and almost knocked myself out.

At least during the snow storms I'm not afraid of power outages, my house being ripped apart like some of these are, etc. x.x

Weather's pretty weak down in Australia. Most dangerous thing we have to face at the moment is probably the threat of a drought.

Hraesvelg 09-17-2008 03:44 PM

But you guys have marsupials...
