Lots of lag

Operating System (OS): Windows Vista Business (32-bit OS? o-o)
Processor information: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU; T8100 @ 2.10 GHz
RAM available: 3054 MB
Graphics information: NIVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M
Nature of your problem: Heavy, heavy lag.

(I'm not a tech savvy person, so I don't know exactly what I'm copying down Dx)

---

I've gone through a lot of lag before, but not one that's this heavy. It takes at least a minute 1+ between waves of lag, where the screen will move for about 2 seconds -headdesk-
I've tried a lot of the usual things (relogging, restarting, manual patch, though I don't know where to find the larger patches anymore @_@), but none of them really work.

This is a new laptop, so I thought it would be alright to run Fiesta on. But then again, it's the laptop that broke down two hours after I bought it *O*

You can try cleaning the computer through Disk Defragmentation and CCleaner (you'll have to google and download; run both the Cleaner and Registry).

Oh yes, the other day I cleaned the fan of my laptop and the machine in general runs so much more smoothly. :cutielove: But that was because my computer got hot enough to fry an egg.

EDIT: Vista in general sucks when playing games I think... :cries:

Ralath 08-11-2008 02:31 AM

:O

Did you take off the bottom of your laptop to clean the fan?

@_@ Warranties and taking off the bottoms of laptops don't play well...

Loveless 08-11-2008 02:41 AM

No, I used the can of compressed air... that was enough to get the dust off.

Enraya 08-11-2008 02:58 AM

I'm still laggy after defragmentation, so I read up on the troubleshooting manual that said I had internet connection problems.

Connection Status:
Operating state: Associated with access point
Signal strength: 99%
Signal quality: Excellent
Transmit rate: 54.0 Mbps

Wireless ... is it not fast enough? *O* -headdesk-

My laptop doesn't get very hot, so I don't think I need to clean out the fan.

Loveless 08-11-2008 03:16 AM

Well, if your laptop runs fine outside of gaming (ie. programs run fine) then it may be your connection. I run on wireless too and I have my good days where it runs fine and then I have the complete opposite where I can't even move an inch.

Apparently signal strength doesn't necessarily means that your Internet connection itself will be fast. 54Mbps is considered 'slow'... ideal is something like 100 I think?

Enraya 08-11-2008 03:44 AM

100 apparently also varies too LOL. 100 where I live right now is decent, but 100 in Canada is super. Lag-free 100% XD

I can usually run with 54 Mbps on my other laptop though (which broke down and I lost all 7k of my screenshots -headdesk-). It's laggy sometimes, but not as bad as this @_@

Loveless 08-11-2008 04:00 AM

Yeah, I can run with something lower than that actually... it might actually help to post at the official forums. But the bad thing about when I did it last time was that it was dismissed as "you can't run online games on wireless" - Fiesta_Help.

So much for technical support. Worth giving a shot though... cause it *might* be their servers.

Lexaeus 08-11-2008 04:13 AM

It might be Vista. I just bought a new laptop on Wednesday August 6 and Fiesta works fine on wireless on that laptop but my Vista makes it exit out of Fiesta if I am on for over 15 minutes then it freezes and crashes. All I have is my Microsoft Office 2003 and my itunes and songs. Scanned no viruses. It might be your vista like my vista is the problem for my error. I ran Fiesta on my old laptop with 54mbps and it runs perfectly fine except when I go to town or when my brother downloads.

Loveless 08-11-2008 04:16 AM

The thing is that Vista takes up a heck of a lot of RAM or whatever it is that it takes up.

If you're running on Windows Vista Aero, change it to Vista basics and see if the games runs any better. Also, if you have the sidebar out, exit out of it as well...

Hmmmmmmmmmmm I see.............. Thank you I did have the sidebar out so maybe that's why.

Enraya 08-11-2008 04:37 AM

Thanks for the sidebar advice.
I guess it's also map lag as well; I don't lag as much in Eld as I do in Dark Passage I or Abyss, surprisingly. Yesterday I lagged hell in Eld and was fine in Dark Passage and Abyss XD

Loveless 08-11-2008 04:50 AM

Maps definitely has something to do with the lag. For me I'm fine in dungeons (-holds on to abyss/trumpy remains-) but I can't handle CP or AEW for some reason...

the network thing:
it looks like what you were talking about is your network speed. 54Mbps is G i think. that won't matter as long as what's being transfered to your computer over the network doesn't require something faster than that. fiesta doesn't so that's ok.

but if it's a bad connection the speed shown can still be the same but it'll still cause lag and you can get dced a lot.

the 100Mbps is either wireless N or ethernet i think.

you say the problem is waves of lag with about 2 seconds in between where the screen moves. if the screen is frozen then that's graphic. if by nothing moving you just mean people not moving and stuff but you cna still see (for example) shrooms swaying or you cna walk then that's your connection most likely.

if it's the first thing and you know your video card and everything is high enough to run fiesta then try making sure your drivers are up to date and everything.

iDerrick 08-13-2008 08:12 PM

Its probably just the connection. I have wireless on my good computer and when i tried running most of my games, I would experience a like a 2 second lag in which the screen would pause then fast forward to catch up to normal game speed. There shouldnt be anything wrong with your computer, just that any game no matter what the reqs, shouldn't be played under wireless conditions. There will always be lag with wireless. When I switched back to using my ethernet cable, all my games ran perfectly smooth. With wireless (54mbs) I had a ping of about 60, but when I switched back to ethernet (100mbs), my ping dropped down to around 20.

Sandandstone 08-14-2008 06:41 AM

wow, ur gonna give urself a concussion with all the -headdesk-s easy up on abusing ur head and the desk... or both might end up broken xD

Hraesvelg 08-14-2008 07:23 AM

I used to play on dial-up, so you don't need a superfast connection to be able to play.

oOAnubisOo 08-18-2008 04:31 PM

I believe it to be your router and laptop. You could try a few things, if your in an area where you don't have to worry about encryption as much, you could change your encryption from 128bit to 64bit. You could also adjust the Firewall setting within your router to put your Laptop in a DMZ (demilitarized zone kinda), this will put your laptop outside of the firewall and makes it vulnerable to malicious incoming requests. As far as your laptop goes, making sure you don't have a bunch of programs requesting to use the network all the time is a key factor. You can run Sandra by SiSoftware and do network tests to see what could be slowing you down and it can tell you what you can turn off to optimize. Defrag, even if it says you don't have to. Most importantly, read up on setting up you Pagefile correctly so you are using your memory to it's full potential and not paging to much info when Fiesta is using 900megs D: .

In the end, it could just be that 54mbs isn't fast enough. It's not for me.

MikeyG 08-18-2008 10:30 PM

Bleh its prob your connection, i used to have wireless
in my old house but then i convinced my mom and her boyfriend

EriaDaisyAoi 08-18-2008 10:42 PM

I wonder how you will get out of Elderine! LOL!
