Bugs in my rice, was amusing...

A few weeks ago, we bought a new bag of rice. When we used it for the first time, I noticed some black things floating around when I was washing it. I thought, "What are these? Did they come from the rice? Huh... Oh well, I'll just remove them." So I would removed any I saw and continue washing the rice, la la la, cook it, eat it.

Each time, I would would remove them so today I was looking at the rice before washing it, thinking, "Oy, I wish this black things would just go away, I'm tired of removing them." And then I thought I saw one move so I picked it up and realize it was a bug... And that they were all bugs. So I stood wonder if I should continue with it or not. I left that up to my dad to decide. Anyways... Yeah... Kinda funny... But at the same time, creepy.

Ewwww.

Those things in your Raisin Bran... Yeah, they're not raisins. O_O

Meal bugs is the most common name for them or grain weevils. They are actually harmless and add protien to your rice, as gross as that sounds. One way to keep them out, is to keep your rice in the fridge. They will not invade it if it is kept in the cold. If they came like that from the store, then they will go dormant in the fridge and it will make them easier to wash off.

So does that mean my Rice Bubbles are really maggots?:zomg:

Spirit 08-01-2008 12:09 AM

Not maggots. Maggots are baby flies. These bugs only eat grain and flour. Flies eat anything including their own puke. :zomg::uhoh:

Ah, that's good to know Spirit. :D

Andromeda 08-01-2008 01:50 AM

I can imagine that at a BBQ

"Eeeeew a Fly puked on me"

Then everyone gives you that wtf look

Apparently its normal to find bugs in your uncooked rice... they did come from a crop field...... XD

but when u wash ur rice they usually float and u can just remove it like that..

-watched kev wash rice, never done it myself before-

I think flies regurgitate every time they make contact lol.

Esen 08-01-2008 03:07 AM

Well, it's a first for me. xD We don't run out of rice that fast since we don't eat it as often as we used too. And they float if they are near the top, but sometimes I have to move it around for the ones that are kinda buried in there.

As for flies... o-o"

Hyper 08-01-2008 03:09 AM

Wow, I've never really washed my rice... *o*

...

I wonder how hard it would be to cook rice without a rice cooker.

Only done it once with a beef broth in a pan over the stove to give the rice flavor. Wonder if the bugs survive in boiling water.........

Back in 4th grade, my friend and I were sitting at the lunch table and she opened up her chips... and.. and.. there were ants in there D: Some were still alive! It was so gross. She returned it and got another bag of chips but a different kind xD She hasn't had the same kind ever since.

Lol.

This thread title could have been "Bugs in my rice, how nice..." xD
