New Computer!!~
Well I've been looking to buy a new computer online but I don't know what to get D:
Is Alienware worth it? I wanna get a really good computer that can play those awesome new games D: Where should I start? xD Anyone know much about gaming comps D: |
All i know is my GeForce 8800GTS is working very well for me =D
|
I think mine atm is GeForce FX 5600 xD
Alienware costs like $3,200 for a mid range gaming comp.. and the graphics card is... 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 9800 GT Is that good? xD |
^ is amazing
|
i have a comp that has a lot of RAM memory it has like 1080.
|
I don't suppose you're confident enough to build your own rig?
|
I had a friend who was somewhat obsessed with getting a top-of-the-line Alienware computer.
This though was back before Halo came out ( 1 or 2, I can't remember ) so his idea of top-of-the-line is somewhat different now. He made it sound like Alienware were the ultimate gaming-rigs. They might be? |
Its hype, mostly. Alienware is owned by Dell, so, yeah. Marketing, marketing, marketing.
|
Wish I knew that a long time ago.
|
I think they bought the company some time in...06? 07? It hasn't been THAT long ago. I've liked their case designs, but I think they're full systems are overpriced. Then again, I tend to build my own. To each his own, I suppose.
|
I'd say get a Dell XPS laptop...
But that's just because they have LCD light out of the fans, speakers, and top of the laptop. :D Cool. Seriously, don't get an XPS... And I've used Alienware computers before, and honestly I don't see a noticeable difference other than graphics. |
Alienware comps are good for gaming, they come optimized for it with everything overclocked and cooled, ready to roll for you. As far as being worth it goes... not really. Not to me anyway. You can build the same rig and tweak it yourself for much much less money. You pay a lot for the brand name and convenience. If you have the money for it and can't, or don't want to, build your own then yeah, they're good.
|
Yeah.. I don't really know how to build my own so I was gonna just get a ready made one.
Okay no more alienware for me xD thanks guys! But i prob gonna go to some cheapo computer shop and ask them to make one xD |
-cough- I can get you a sweet deal on a Win 98. >.>
Why don't you step in to my office. |
yes sir!
Q9450 Core 2 Quad(!), 4gb ram, HD4870 512mb VGA, 750gb hdd, 22" WS LCD, 5.1 Speakers, VISTA Home Premium This sounds good for $2400 AU yeah? =D |

Namely because I really don't want to find a way to put a graphics card in a laptop. Alienware, meh, no true personal experience with it, can't say anything. |
Alienware = overpriced. Same with Sony.
Good computer in your last post. IMHO skip vista for a few years though. |

Hmm okayy! I think Ima get that computer! D: it's from a shop right next to my place xD
But Vista looks soooo cool D: |
It looks cool, yes. But as of now it has compatibility errors with quite a few game protection systems like xtrap, gameguard, and punkbuster. Your going to find many more errors with games using vista than you would without. Plus, vista is a memory and graphics hog.
|
But if I get an awesome fast computer it should be able to handle it right? D:<
Because the shop said something abt support will be less for XP soon or somethingg. |
Large corporation distribution of Windows XP was terminated on June 30, 2008.
Small corporation distribution of Windows XP is scheduled to be terminated on January 31, 2009. It is still possible to use XP by purchasing Ultimate and downgrading to XP. And yes, XP is infinitely better than Vista at the moment. Vista is still buggy and will remain so for quite some time. If you truly want the Vista look, override the files necessary, or use WindowBlinds and modify your desktop look from there. XP is rock solid compared to Vista in terms of stability. |
So even if I get a new comp that I hope will last me at least 2-3 years, I should still get XP? =D
|
Just build your own computer. I gave my friend $1k (US Dollars) and he was able to build me a great comp.
19'' LCD monitor 2.54ghz duo core intel processor 4gb ram 500gb hd space evga 8800GT vid card I dont think alienwares are worth buying if you can make the same comp for under 1k. |
Pirating ftw, remember your who your talking to here.
|
Well here's the comp I'm going to order D:
Btw. it's exactly $2000 AU or $1913 US D: |
That's a really good rig. Not much experience with that GFX card (I prefer to stick with Nvidia cuz 8800 Ultra vid cards are the top right now, used for all the Ultimate gaming machines and winner of most benchmarking competitions.) Although they released the new 9800 series, the 8800 is still known to be the best. 9800 saves you a bit more electricity tho, takes less power to run it.
But yea, I looked up the prices for most of the parts there and they add up to around 1400~1600 USD so u're getting a pretty decent price for it since u don't know how to build your own comp. |
Woot~ I order it tonight sometime =D
Yeah that gfx card is a radeon one.. i looked on that tech net thing and it says it's teh 3rd best one out D: must be good! Thanks guys! |
I JUST PICKED UP MY NEW COMPUTER TODAY!! WITH A MASSIVE 22" SCREEN WOOT :D:D
NOW... I have no games to play.. ._.;; Btw when I right click on My Computer.. it says I have 3.25 Gb RAM.. is that right? Cos I think I'm supposed to have 4Gb D: |
