SOPA Blackout

In protest of SOPA, a few sites are doing blackouts, Wikipedia and Equestria Daily are just a few, I think its a great way to protest SOPA and PIPA

Vasu 01-18-2012 10:15 AM

Yeah, I noticed that a few hours back. It's a good way to show how barren the internet might become with the implementation of those motions.

Sparkeh 01-18-2012 11:33 AM

I noticed. Even games doing it too.

Entropy 01-18-2012 11:58 AM

It would be nice if facebook and google shut down for a day in protest too. (even though I can barely function without google)

Oh, and I noticed if you disable javascript you can still use wikipedia. (another site I use constantly)

Hraesvelg 01-18-2012 06:46 PM

Fark.com has decided to support the efforts and went white today.

Haha, I like their approach.

Yeah, they were using a pretty simple javascript there to redirect to their blackout page. window.onLoad() I think, so if you cancel the loading of the page before everything is done, you can still read the articles.

Or you can disable javascript. :o

Yeah I kinda wished sites like facebook and twitter did it. Then it'd really hit everyone at home :P

Such a long and huge download... don't really have the patience to do a 4 day download.

Hraesvelg 01-20-2012 06:45 AM

Hrm. Didn't have an account there, but I wonder how long it's going to be until they get the one I do use.

You dont have to download every file in the torrent. You can download one at a time. With a good internet connection and enough seeders you can download one hour of TV in under 5 minutes.

MikeyG 01-20-2012 08:46 AM

I appreciate the input but I am very familiar with torrents. The one that actually has any seeds has very low, and is all 3 seasons in 19 gigabytes ... which isn't bad but the download speed still doesn't move. And I have very fast, Canadian, internet service ;)

Looks like I'm gunna have to actually purchase the seasons from god knows where o-o

LOL Americans usually have a lot slower internet. Just speaking out of personal experience. It has to do with the difference in # of people someone told me.

Yosei 01-21-2012 02:37 AM

My friend had given me the address to the site so you could get to it, but I forgot it ^^;;

And yeah, compared to a lot of countries, American internet is slower :P Kind of ironic, you'd think we'd have better. Le sigh... first world problems.

On a brighter note ... weewt I found my show, and I don't have wait half an hour every 72 minutes (y)

A_Forever 01-21-2012 03:47 PM

I supported the protest. Emailed crap an errythanggg

YEAHH! BEING APART OF A MOVEMENT! WHOOP WHOOP

Aha.

Hessah 01-26-2012 09:26 PM

Feeling the effects of the new law now.. all 6 servers where I get my TVB series with English Subs are gone... Zzz...

Hraesvelg 01-27-2012 05:58 AM

Hell, SOPA/PIPA has been tabled. It isn't law. This is what can happen with what's ALREADY on the books, which is why a lot of people think SOPA was going way too far.

Phantom Badger 01-27-2012 05:35 PM

I think the main problem right now is ACTA.
