Stalin's Making a Comeback...

This seriously freaks me out...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_...some_in_Russia

Any ideas on what this might mean for Russia's future?

Ivramire 06-15-2009 03:06 AM

Absolutely nothing.

He's still dead.

Jikanu 06-15-2009 03:28 AM

Ah, of course, but what if a stalin-like person comes around with dreams of political gain?

that's what my point was.

Yosei 06-15-2009 04:14 AM

And I'm sure many politicians, even in America, have dreams of that.

Jikanu 06-15-2009 04:34 AM

Hm... What do you mean?

That there are Stalinists in america who would love to rise to power? if so, i totally agree. But i doubt they would succeed in america. it seems that stalinist ideas are taking root there again, which is obviously a bad thing... stalin was obviously a huge scum bag... the cult of personality... the purges... the destruction of what was a first a nice idea... all of that.

Is that what you mean, though? or have i misinterpreted your post? if so, please correct me.

Ivramire 06-15-2009 04:52 AM

Unrest always draws dissent.

I would'nt make anything out of it personally, especially with citing a source from Wikipedia. Russia was hit hard by the economic crisis and everyone knows bad times draw out comparisons to the ''Good Times'' that always seem to be in the past.

Back when Stalin ruled, Russia was much more of a superpower than it is today and was held to a higher regard. Even if a Stalin-esque personality came to power, I highly doubt they'd have the wherewithal or the influence on an international scale to do anything on the magnitude that Stalin did.

Hraesvelg 06-15-2009 05:25 AM

If Putin doesn't really worry you, I don't understand why this would.

Jikanu 06-15-2009 05:30 AM

Ah, trust me, i hate putin with a passion. Didnt think about that... good point, though. Perhaps that's why he holds a popular standing in russia in contrast to the outside world... think he's reviving stalinism?

Belaslav 06-15-2009 05:48 AM

Hell no. If Stalin ever came back, I'd be one of the thousands of people paying for the takeout.

I believe Stalin was (in a way) worse than Hitler. Why? At least Hitler killed those whom he considered his enemies, Stalin killed his own kind just to stay in power.

I kinda hope Stalin does come back, that way all of my Zombie Preparedness Training won't have been in vain. Maybe I can take out Zombie Nixon.

On a more serious note, we should probably worry about getting our own house in order before we go poking our noses around in other countries' business.

Jikanu 06-15-2009 05:53 AM

Ah, but just as with the first revolution it just takes a few individuals, not neccesarilly a majority...

And if you think of it that way, stalin killed those he considered his enemies, regardless of race. so, assuming that's the only argument, hitler's worse, because he's racist :/

In my mind, however, they're tied... both are dining with satan and the spartan king Leonidas right now...

Edit: sorry, didnt see hrae's post till i posted.

1. Too late- Nixon was always a zombie. He didnt die of a coma. Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee and Jack Bauer teamed up to wipe him out.

2. True... but isnt it also true that a good way countries can rise is if we all cooperate and help each other at the same time?

though that would be hard with all the past tension between the west and Russia...

Off-topic: You just reminded of this...

Jikanu 06-15-2009 06:12 AM

@Bela:

You said you're a resident of russia, right? (please correct me if you meant you just were in the past.)

What are your experiences with Putin, thus far? how has life in russia been since he was elected?

Belaslav 06-15-2009 06:17 AM

No major changes. Corruption, bribes, cops beating the crap out of innocent people, the usual. But then again, I haven't been in Russia for nearly 7 years now, so I'm not really the guy you should ask, heh.

Are you sure that was Russia? Sounds like Philadelphia.

Jikanu 06-15-2009 06:34 AM

Ah... i see... so basically it's no better than stalinism?

*sigh* i hate corrupt rulers... and what sucks is that the more the rulers keep abusing the people, the more of a radical solution the people will look for...

DeathMagnetic 06-15-2009 11:56 AM

Awesome, let's get some communism back in the world.

Jikanu 06-16-2009 03:37 AM

Explain your ideology.

Hraesvelg 06-16-2009 03:43 AM

His ideology is as follows: You expressed a dislike of Stalin, and thus communism. He then says he likes it so that it will rile you up and give him the attention he so desperately craves.

Jikanu 06-16-2009 03:51 AM

Ah, but he's posted pro-communist statements multiple times in the past. And i would ignore him, but i dont want the thread to die.

Im also not anti-communism, but instead anti-stalinism. I lean more towards trotskyism and anarcho-socialism than anything else. Utopic, perhaps, but regardless, let's stay on topic.
