no his point is that YOU have to win 5 games with the team if you wanna get the gold. If you win 5 games with the team and the team is at gold rank, then yes it doesn't matter how many you lose after that.

But say the team rank is gold and I've only won 4 games with the team myself, then I'm not qualified for it.

Yeah, an individual needs to win five games with the team to achieve rewards. Once you have won 5 times, it doesn't matter how low the team ELO gets, you're locked in. So technically people can tank the team ELO to like 600, have a full crew of 5 people who've never played, and have those 5 play/win 5 games. Then they qualify for gold rewards at like 800 ELO, since the team locks at the highest ELO so far achieved.
