You said he's 11, that's pretty old for a dog, lol.
Well from what I remember abou vestibular disease, usually its either in the brain or inside the ear, but the thing about it is that it usually goes away on its own, within a few days to a few weeks without treatment.
o_o So what I would do (to save money) is if his condition looks bad, tell the vet that you'd like to have some urine and/or blood samples taken to see if something's up, and take the dog back with you - otherwise they're gonna charge you a crapload for medical treatment and boarding.
>_< sadly a lot of vets these days do crap like keep the animal longer than they should just to get more money .... happened to us a while ago when one of my dogs came down with parvovirus, and we ended up paying like 600+ dollars trying to save him, only to have him die =\
But yeah don't worry, I'm not sure about medicine for vestibular (didn't get into the meds class before I quit) but if anything, it will probably be some kind of ear drops (as it takes place in the inner ear MOST of the time.)
So really don't worry, just don't let hte vet jerk you around.
