Kk, I will assume Curly. I thought it was a random thing, I think i just harvested plants and found it random in about the 6th or 7th mushroom or herb.

But generally when I have questions I ask Spirit, she knows a lot and usually has an answer.

They were proof that they had passed the appropriate stage and were eligible for the next part, so that someone couldn't jump the line, as it were. They had to go to the correct "NPC" in the correct order.
