I actually find that following tutorials teach you how to start mucking around and experimenting in Photoshop. I don't really remember much of when I first started with it, but with any new design/graphics program, I find it hard to even know what to do in order to start "experimenting".

Following tutorials is a nice way to get used to how Photoshop and their tools work.

Oh~

Yeah, I suppose that might be a problem too haha. @_@
I just had fun with it, and in time the tools became familiar. Bad thing about trying out without tut's is that you never get to explore tools that you don't like that much, therefore not getting to know what they're capable of.

It's just easier for me to find my own way/style around first, I suppose, without the reliance of other people's info.

That's also true! I think I actually didn't follow tutorials at first.. and mucked around like you did, but tutorials taught me a lot more other tools, so I felt that I should have followed the tutorials xD Maybe you should like.. muck around yourself.. then follow tutorials.. then go back to mucking around! LOL!!!

OK HELP!

http://www.sigtutorials.com/tutorial...signature.html

I started this tute coz it looks kinda easy.. which it was... motion blur, motion blur, Linear Dodge ( That's new!)

And then... if you go down the to "Adding the Main Picture" part... it's suppose to each me how to blend the picture onto the background..

I cant get the add vector mask thing happening... I only have the option to Add Layer Mask, (i think after that I have the option to add Vector Mask but it doesnt seem to make any changes)

I've still got that rough edge... What am I doing wrong or wat have I missed?

Blaaaaaaaah 08-03-2009 11:01 AM

lulz. I actually don't know how masking works! I was supposed to learn about it but I forgot and when I remembered.. I was too lazy to follow tutes xD Hopefully someone else here knows how masking works HAHA.

Hessah 08-03-2009 11:05 AM

Now that reminds me it happens to me a lot at most tutorials..

I follow it real well all the way until the end when it just doesnt work out

-rage quit-

xD

Blaaaaaaaah 08-03-2009 11:08 AM

You're not the only one.. I feel that way too LMAO. I feel that way with a lot of things actually. I was working on a chibi but I had a "drawing block" and I haven't made any progress since.. I would open it a few times in attempt to fix it up but... I always close it after 5 minutes xD

Hessah 08-03-2009 11:13 AM

I just blurred the rough edge and it looked alright..

that'll do xD

next...

If you click the add layer mask button twice, it lets you add vector.

Not sure what vector does, but in layer mask, use the brush.
Black = get rid of layer.
White = bring the layer back.
Different shades of gray/opacities will get you some nice blurring in effects.

Hessah 08-03-2009 11:19 AM

ohh hmm I still dont see what it does but that made me played aorund with the layer option instead and it looked kinda cool...

Interesting... thanks En!
