It can certainly give you a practical overview of war and tactical thinking, much like The Art of War. This is very helpful in the business world. In fact, UC Berkeley has a course on StarCraft. I'm fairly sure it's taught under the math section, but the lessons can be applied to many aspects of management.

The videos of the lectures are on YouTube.

I watched the first class of an Anatomy class on YouTube. That one was interesting. Good professor. And then it just got... too... much. @_@;;;

Actually. I'm sorry, but that's just Mathematics people being very... well you know what they're like, inventing situations to play with. Mathematicians can create a problem out of basically anything. They have chosen to dissect the game mechanism and theorize it. In reality however, if one gloats about their professional macro and micro skills, and was then asked about how long they can exercise it for in a management job interview - "3 flat hours in an arduous game!". Good luck with employment.

Anatomy? -searches-

A bit more on-topic...I could give you a single data point for each of my characters, as I don't play any more. Would that be useful, or are you more interested in tracking the progression for various characters?

An analogy to the double-slit diffraction experiment - and every set of data you enter is a single photon. (Every photon counts)

Is there a thread for this on the officials?

If someone would like to publicise the data collector, please do. I am not dealing on the Outspark forums.

Some annoying feedback XD It's neither here nor there.. but you MIGHT want to make it perfect...

1. STR / DEX / END / INT / SPR didnt quite follow the same order as in game list... i almost put my DEX in the END field...

2. The Dmg and M Dmg. When you strip the weapon off your character, there's only 1 figure for it, there isnt a xxx ~ yyy. It's just xxx.

That is all!

I thought it was S/E/D/I/S, I will make some changes!
And the damage thing - haha! I guess one can never be too careful. But it is a good data validation trap :nahnah:

Thanks for pointing that out.

Edit: I got myself to dig amongst my 2 GB of screenshots to find one that contains the stats window. Now I have it arranged in the same order.

Well, I don't think the course is there to encourage people to game and there's really no sensible reason for graduates from that course to gloat about StarCraft strategy planning in their job interviews (of course, there are always exceptions to the sensible rule). The purpose of all teaching by example, like this one, is to give a hands-on experience with a model which can then be further studied and applied to other related forms. It all comes down to principles, which are essentially the take-home message for anyone undertaking such a course. If they bring the idea of "play this game to practise what I just learnt" home and do nothing else, they got the wrong idea.

Not all mathematicians invent situations to play with. The applied mathematicians rely on practical problems and the time when they 'invent' something is when the solution to an immediate scenario presents a scope for further investigation. The pure mathematicians are the ones who like to make problems out of thin air.

The faculty of mathematics in my university is split into two, the department of pure mathematics and mathematical statistics, and the department of theoretical physics and applied mathematics.

You get the idea, but hopefully Triumph does as well.

lamchopz, go fill in my form since you have time to post :cutielove:

Why not sparkeh? Q.Q

++...

Why we need this stuff?

I'm pretty sure this is the one..

Belaslav 04-01-2009 04:35 PM

Look up autopsy, gives you a much more practical view.

Icy my sparky lvled up :cutielove: 63! :3

but ill get the data in the morning when i wake up. x]

and again i shall say why our data is neede? since the wiki holds all of it? Oo

Icy 04-01-2009 07:54 PM

And wow, an aged lady lecturer. I will be so pleasantly surprised to have one of them as my physics lecturer.

Most of the data tables in the wiki come from either hyperswoss (equipments, licenses), Gandalfa82 (items, NPCs, monsters), me (a foot in almost every table), and Triumph (item list dump, in which I had a hand in tabulating, lol). Some (monster locations, skills, EXP table) are the result of many input users, but some (character stats) simply don't get many page view. It is a pasttime of mine to rectify this.

The point is, since
  1. (sadly) my input to the organisational aspect of the wiki has put even Triumph's input into the shadow, and that
  2. I plan to overshadow his minuscule contribution list by an absolutely incredible margin,
I am collecting data in an organized and efficient manner for those pages listed in my first post: because, so far, over a year has passed since I gave those pages individuality, they are still too shabby to strictly qualify as standalone pages under the notability clause.

VVV--- Ralath post stalker

Ralath 04-01-2009 07:57 PM

And thus, Icy's plan for world domination was revealed.

Sparkeh 04-02-2009 09:31 AM

I added the new data. :cutielove:

@ Ralath....I'll join her and dump u out
