Oh, and while I'm at it, I strongly recommend that you read The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan.

You're actually suggesting WoT? You, sir, are a sadist, heh. 11 densley detailed fantasy books, some of which go on and on. The author died before he finished the last book and they're going to finish it out based on his notes. I mean, just wow. Everyone I've heard that read the series are only continuing on because they've already invested so much into reading the other ones.

Darkly Dreaming Dexter (Yes)
Dearly Devoted Dexter (Yes)
Alex Rider series (Anthony Horowitz) (They're good but he should have stayed down)
Power of 5 series (Horowitz again) (meh for me)
Darren Shan Series. (Darren Shan :3) (Bit long though)

I know...first WoT book I read when I was 13/14. Saw a book of the series years later and thought...this is still going on...?

Just check the wiki entry. It's hard to sum up an 11-book series of over 9000 pages in a forum post, heh.

But do you like the story overall?

WoT will seem like a complete rip-off of LotR through the first book, but the serioes takes it's own tone through the next three books. From the 5th book onwards, things slow down, and the series seems to drag on and on...all up to the 11th book, where events explode in delightful fashion, and leave you biting your nails waiting for the 12th.

I haven't actually read them. I got burned on long series after reading all of Tolkien's work and then Anne Rice. The only long series of books I ever read that I actually liked was the Gor series. I just don't want to invest that much into a series and be disappointed again.

Vasu 03-11-2009 02:34 PM

I don't think you will be. At any rate, aren't you a fast reader? It took me about 30 hours on my first re-read of the full series, so I estimate about 50 for my first read.

BTW, Parles-tu francais?
