Also, since my net is rather volatile (keeps disconnecting), I set the checkpoint rate to a little above 3 min..I hop it doesn't keep creating a new saved file every 3 min, and just overwrites the same file.
|
Yeah, it should overwrite. It won't just keep growing and growing if that's what you're worried about. It should save to the "work" folder wherever you installed it so you can check that if you want, but it shouldn't really get much bigger than 3-5 MB or so I think.

Also, I just finished my second WU (wow..lame), and now it says "Attempting to get work packet". It's been saying that for 8 hours. When I look at the display, it says,
Waiting for Core: Step 879 Wtf is Step 879? Is it downloading the 879th frame or what? |
I get that error message too when I reboot or if I lose power and get kicked off. Usually if I restart my computer, it fixes it.

Doesn't work for me...someone help me! :(
|
Try to right-click on the little icon and select Exit. This should shut it down completely. Then try to reinstall it. Let me know if this doesn't help. I sometimes have to do that. The suck part about it, is that it sometimes starts your work units over. :(
|
Nope..still doesn't work...I've only finished 2 WUs so far, but it doesn't record my second one...I guess it'll record it after I get a 3rd..which I'm not :(
EDIT: Oh well, it's working again :), but it didn't record my second WU :( |
Folding@Home is pretty cool...
My wife (a geneticist) also told me about this Foldit game when I asked her about the stuff on this thread... Folding meets gaming...neato concept imo http://kotaku.com/388753/foldit-make...folding-a-game |
I wanted to play the Foldit game but it wouldn't let me register... D:

I knew this program about 1 or 2 days after it first came out but it slipped my mind. Downloaded and installed, it really takes up a small amount of memory (11 - 13MB) but it's a bit hungry for CPU usage (always 50%+ on my system when the program is running). This is, overall, not a problem because the programs I have are quite lightweight. I'm happy to do this to help with the research and I've already spread it to my msn friends.
If you have time and you're an English freak (as in good at English), go here www.freerice.com , play the quiz and donate rice to the Food Program headed by the UN. Yes, all you do is play the vocabulary quiz. For each word you get right, you donate 20 grains of rice. How does it work? The advertisements you see while playing are the source of money. |
