OHH and to help with those that disagree with me not feeling guilty, when I get to a level that I no longe need or want the axe, I am going to give it away with the stipulation that the axe can never be sold but must be handed down from Fighter to Fighter for the rest of the game.

Now that makes it interesting. ;)

Yes, but it such a good debate and I am enjoying it so much. :)

Loveless 04-07-2008 06:21 PM

Just make sure it does get handed down to the right 'generations'. ;)

Ohh there's no need to stop the debate. My whole point of the post was to say hey look what I found.

so if you think I should feel guilty tell me why. If you don't tell me why.

Okay now talk amoungst yourselves.

Ohh Loki I really wasn't kidding about the loan thing. Let me know.:D

mof 04-07-2008 06:59 PM

I gotta say that was a good read indeed.

I don't want to respond to every single post, so I'll say some here and respond to other other comments directed at me. I personally would feel guilty for keeping the weapon - that's just me though.

Some people said it's just a game and it's the seller's fault and you can do what you want - yes that's true. But since it IS a game, people can ks and loot steal and do all those things people rant about, which apparently, makes them jerks.

"Oh look! That player is 10 years old... I think I'm gonna do the 'I'll enhance your weapon scam' on them... They'll get scammed sooner or later for sure, why not learn the lesson early." - Sure you can do that... OR tell them and teach them what scams they need to be aware of.

If I sold a +9 weap for 1s by accident the first thing I'd do is check my pms to see if anyone whispered me to give me my weapon back. Whether they give me my weapon back or not doesn't change the fact that I would have learned my lesson already! So if I'd appreciate this gesture, why would I not return this gesture to others? Because I'm selfish? Well sure I'm selfish to a certain extent... That's where you draw the line.

So I either would try to return the weapon and not feel guilty, or keep it and feel guilty (not sure how much).

edit: On a separate note, can I use your new xbow? XD

Enraya 04-08-2008 08:21 AM

I'm not finished debating~

I've got another analogy! o:

Person A is going to die tomorrow, you know it. Does it make it right to kill him today? No. But you know very well that if you do not kill person A, person B will kill person A. If not B, then C.

See, if I slit A's throat, I have a choice. I can let him bleed to death, or I can press a finger to his would and decide to bandage it up. If I bandage it up, there'll be a scar to person A, a reminder to never let his guard down. But if I don't make the decision to slit him, person B, C, Z is going to come hunt them down with a machete and kill A.

I would rather take it myself, because I know I have a choice of giving it back to them or not. How would I know if B - Z will think the way that I do? How do I know they're not going to steal it? I don't. So the best choice for both me and person A is for me to slit his throat, and I'll decide whether to rush him to the hospital or let him bleed.

mof 04-08-2008 03:35 PM

Aye I know what you're saying lightning - after shivering at that gruesome example... what movies have you been watching lately? ^^

Ulrike 04-08-2008 07:52 PM

no you shouldn't feel guilty.

This coming from someone who accidentally sold a godly lv50 2h +9 sword by mis-pricing

le sigh >>

Manzcar 04-08-2008 08:02 PM

I thought this would be an interesting topic of discussion, but I never thought it would cause this kind of debate.

Or very scary "for instances" that have been put out there.

I am keeping the axe, I am going to use the axe, and then I will give the axe away to a deserving person of my choice.

:D

Awww. Thanks, I'm a sword kinda gal but I just might take you up on that offer if I decide to work my fighter and you are not leveled up enough yet.

But truth be told, you will probably pass my fighter in level since mine is an alt - my main is a cleric.

Blaaaaaaaah 04-09-2008 03:19 AM

I know OP has already decided BUUUT Ima just say what I think anyway.

If I was you, I wouldn't feel guilty. That person has made a mistake, tough luck. Of course it'd be great if you're nice and give it back, and everything will be all good, but if you choose not to, I don't think there's anything wrong with that either. It's not like you scammed it or anything. He/she had priced it themselves, their responsibility to check, not yours.

I'm not even thinking about what's gonna happen if someone else came along and saw it. It's gonna be the same story.

Yeah, even if it was me who priced something wrong by accident, I'd be sooo depressed and hope that the buyer will come back to me, but if they don't, it's really my own fault and I can't call the buyer a bad guy because all they did was buy something from a shop at whatever price it was set at. Simple as that.

Ralath 04-09-2008 03:59 AM

Okayyyyy this killing people analogy is terrible. Not to mention creepy.

First of all, the analogy doesn't take into fault and the seller-buyer contract (that is, you pay me the money and I promise to give you the weapon and vice versa). Person A (the seller) was clearly at fault and he had no one else to blame. If he had said that someone else had hacked his account and priced his weapon at 1s to get back at him (and could prove it), then yes, maybe you should return the weapon.

But no. He priced the weapon at 1s and opened his store initiating the seller-buyer agreement.

Lady-Loki 04-09-2008 04:08 AM

All rise. Judge Ralath has given his verdict. Case dismissed. Court is adjourned.

Vasu 04-09-2008 09:12 AM

Not quite! Advocate Vasu has entered the fray! Anyways, recently, I saw a curse resistance +18% necklace for sale at 35c. I bought it. I had already decided to buy it and return it the moment I saw it. I just couldn't have lived with it otherwise. Although you've already decided that you don't feel guilty, I think you should. There's a 999s loss which that guy is facing. He may have been in a lot of need for money. Eg. A lvl 30 guy with very little money is playing. He picks up an amazing ZK weapon which would sell for 30s without enhancement. He prices it at 30c by mistake. How hard would it be on him if someone bought it? His one chance to make money and come out of poverty? Sure if he was that desperate, he would have double-checked the price. But what-if? I mean if you're sure that you're going to return it to the seller, go ahead and buy it. Otherwise, what's the difference between you(who is going to use the item) and someone who tries to sell it for a lot more? The seller faces the same loss, no matter what is done with the axe later.

Now consider someone who PMed him later and offered to return the axe...how happy the seller would feel...another chance to get out of poverty...I would certainly return it....

Manzcar 04-09-2008 01:37 PM

The thread that just won't die

So I was soloing Mara the other day just to see if my level 20 fighter could stand toe to toe with her.

Well I did dispose of the bad girl, though I went through a few stones and pots to do so. And all that got dropped was a dust and sp pot.

I feel like getting a T-shirt that says I whacked Mara and all I got was this stupid T-shirt.

Has nothing to do with the topic but I am hoping to do to this topic what I did to Mara. Kill it.

Spirit 04-09-2008 01:41 PM

Manzcar, lol. As the OP you can request that the thread be closed. but I find it an interesting topic and funny to read. It is amazing at the different reactions everyone has to the same situation. I love all the different reasonings behind everyone's thoughts. But, ultimately it is up to you about the thread.

Manzcar 04-09-2008 01:45 PM

I had no idea I could do that.

 Ohh let it stand. I think to it is interesting. It has taken on a life of itself now and I am fine with that.

Though the whole killing RL people does creep me out A LOT.

Spirit 04-09-2008 01:49 PM

lol - yeah, bad analysis, but that is what made it so funny.

Patches 04-09-2008 04:10 PM

Now that I have read the entire thing (*keeping my eye on some of our members a little closer now*) I just want to throw a little kink it for everybody.

How do we know the seller mispriced the item. Everybody assumes (and we all know what that means) that it was a mistake, but in fact it may have been somebody just being nice. Maybe that person has been very lucky in the game and is helping somebody else out, because they know how hard it is at low levels to get money to buy nice stuff. Nobody in here really knows the sellers situation.

If it was a kid then he/she may have very well learned a lesson that they can use in real life (always cover your own butt, cause you can't count on others to do it for you). After all, it is just a GAME. People can get a little too emotionally attached I think.

Just my thoughts, back to work for me.

Spirit 04-09-2008 04:15 PM

^^ hey - I'm poor!!! Throw me all your old fighter stuff. :D and some loose change while you are at it. :p

And yes you bring up a very good point, but I do not think that they would price it THAT low. However, when my son first started playing this game, he was setting his prices WAY low. I had to explain to him the market and how to price things. He made himself little post-it notes and put on his desk so that he would know what price to sell what at, lol.

Yes, and what did he do with that education? He started whispering his grandmother (that would be ME!) to meet him in an out of the way place (like the alleys of Rouman or near the pirate end of Sand Beach) and he set up shop and fully expected me to buy everything at a bit more than "slightly" higher than market. And yes, i did buy the stuff coz I mean, after all, he is my only-est grandson.

So, it is kinda a give-take thing. I give him all the green fighter drops, even enhance the weapons, then he gives it back to me when he is done. But, if he gets something better than what I gave him he keeps it and then passes the better one down to me. :)

And yes!!!!!!!! My son is so cute!! Takes after his momma. :D

Hessah 04-10-2008 03:35 AM

HAHAHA do you sometimes walk around elderine and bump into your son and stuff?? wat level is he now?

i just found it funny how u can keep him as a secret for so long =D

Spirit 04-10-2008 03:52 AM

Actually no. In fact one night while in a party in FoS, I put in guild chat, WTH? My son just kicked me from his friends list. He was at Loki's house, so I asked her to ask him why. Her response.... "OMG - he just deleted his character." Ummm.... this was his account that I would go in and deposit silver in, so that he always had plenty of money to do whatever he wanted. He also had our best fighter armour, weapon, and scrolls on his character. We knew nothing about it, so we wasn't able to tell him to deposit his money in his storage and put all his clothes, mats, and weapon in storage.
Yeah, we kinda both freaked out for a few. Then we decided, oh well, it is just a game. So, he started his fighter over and I think got back to around level 10 and now he has lost interest. He is currently playing Pirates of the Caribbean and a few other games. But, when he played he never wanted to party me, because he said he didn't like me telling him what to do, lol.

Hessah 04-10-2008 03:59 AM

ohh hahaa i guess starting from zero again could get pretty boring XD

but i could imagine that to be quite a shock...

Lady-Loki 04-10-2008 11:09 AM

Now when he is over here he calls across the hall and says "I'm getting on my ship now." And that basically means I need to stop what I am doing and log into my pirate account and go get on his ship and be part of his crew so he can complete his pirate quests. Once he is done (usually a quest complete or 45-75 minutes, whichever comes first) he calls across again and says "I'm logging off." and boom, he's gone.

And since he has a bigger ship than I do he has also logged out without telling me and that left me as the only crew member so I then had to take the ship back to land. When I asked him why he did that he stated simply "You need to learn how to handle a bigger ship and thats a good way to teach you."

LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO XDDD

terrific 04-10-2008 01:06 PM

It's the seller's fault. You even whispered him. If he didn't bother checking his whispers to warn him about his mistake... and thus resulting in him not contacting you, then it's completely your fault. You tried to return it.. just keep it and everyone have a good day.
Btw Manzcar what zone are you in?

To clear some stuff up for you, I didn't wisper him. I just found the deal and bought the axe.

I personally don't think that it was miss-marked. Others here are sure it was miss-marked.

I haven't tried to return it and actually have no intentions in doing so.

I will however give the axe away when I am done with it. And am sure that the good people on this site would eagerly help me give it away.

I play on Teva and live in the EDT. Wasn't sure what zone you were talking about.

Just a tiny thingy I would like to clear up ^^. I'm fine with the fact that you plan to keep the weapon, but the weapon was mismarked - there's no mistake about that. Why? Maybe you say they wanted to rid some junk... but you can NPC the crappiest lvl 30 weapon for a minimum of 1s already. So if they wanted to rid it, they would have done that (this is neglecting the obvious fact that no one would throw away a +9 green weapon for 1s to begin with ;) ).

So what your saying is that I would never give it away or sell it for 1s. Cause you say that "no one" would do that.

Sorry, let me clarify... when I say "throw away" I mean it in the sense that you sell it "randomly" to someone or waste it by NPC-ing it. As you said... you'll find a "suitable" candidate... that's not the "newbie" begging for free stuff in the corner is it? You exemplified my point... you wouldn't waste it either - that's why you need a suitable person to give it to. I would give it away to a friend/guildy before ever vendoring a great weap like that for 1s.

That's what I thought. I can't wait to 3x.

mof 04-10-2008 07:26 PM

Yah I can't really argue with that statement... I'm just trying to clarify that it was accidentally priced regardless of who's fault it was.
