I imagine learning English as a second language would be mind boggling. Nothing really makes any sort of logical sense, seeing as it's borrowed so much vocabulary from other languages and because of that the spelling is all over the place.
And then there's the whole pronunciation thing. There is no "standard" English pronunciation of ANYthing. I can't imagine trying to learn it after having another language system embedded. Native speakers should know better, though. |
Some countries do have the option of learning English english or American english.

Hong Kong learns British English having been an English Colony.. I suppose most British Colonies will learn British English...
