Dude.. go LOOK ON IBUYPOWER ... holiday sales right now
to check out the gamer mages, a few come with a free copy of windows 7...

Triumph 12-07-2009 06:54 AM

It seems what I have said has still not clicked. I will repeat myself once more.

Do not skimp on the graphics card if you want to play games.

Sacrifice on the processor if you must cut costs, but the power supply and the graphics card are essential to gaming computers.

Sparkeh 12-07-2009 10:31 AM

Hmmm i dunno this thread is all about o:

But GL Lirange o:

Destrus 12-07-2009 10:34 AM

o_o AMD has over heating problems? i've actually never had a problem with that besides when my video card was too close to other cards. that caused everything to over heat though.

then again i don't do overclocking and all that stuff.

I know I need a good graphics card which is why I'm asking if so and so is good enough. And I really don't want to go over 600. Seems like the only way to get the whatever graphics card is spending over 600. And I have no idea how to build a computer.

Triumph 12-07-2009 05:13 PM

The solutions you are proposing are all lower end cards, which are priced competitively at $50 to $100. A decent card's price begins at around $150.

If you need to cut costs, the processor is where it can be done. A cheap dual core will suffice, as the computer is only being used to play games. If you were to do, say, CAD or graphics design, you might want to consider upgrading.

The PSU is also critical. Go name brand.

iBuyPower and Tiger Direct have already been suggested. Research a little, find out what motherboard is compatible with your graphics card, and buy a cheap computer. Then replace the PSU and graphics card. Chances are you won't get a good case, but I don't think that's important right now.

It is extremely difficult to build a good gaming desktop with $500.

And iSpark: If you don't know what the thread is about, is there a point in posting that you don't know?

Destrus 12-07-2009 06:29 PM

he can't change the parts himself though so he needs premade.

Ralath 12-07-2009 06:36 PM

Hm.... I think, in theory, it should be possible.

My laptop was around $800. Not quite sure what video card it has (NVIDEO GEForce 8400M GS? Not sure what that means) and it runs games pretty well. Not top of the line, I'm sure. But pretty good for what I need it for.

Lirange 12-07-2009 09:01 PM

Would this be good?

AMD Athlon™ II X2 250 CPU
• 2GB DDR2-800 Memory
• NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT 512MB
• 500GB 7200 RPM HDD
• 22X Double Layer DVD+/-RW

But instead, replace the graphics card with a ATI Radeon HD 4850 - 512MB (same one in that link you showed me) making the total $490? Though it doesn't come with a os but I can always download that from this computer and put it into that computer right?

Thats a good card xDD Should go with the 1g though it's not much more.

Comes with windows 7, probably should upgrade the gfx card though xD maybe hard drive space to just cause 500g or 750 is only like 20 bucks more.

Lirange 12-07-2009 11:46 PM

This was the one I was looking at
http://www.ibuypower.com/Store/Confi...s.aspx?mid=182
With the card change, it'd be 100cheaper ;D
Should I get it?

MikeyG 12-08-2009 02:23 AM

No reason why you shouldnt, I'd upgrade the ram though.

iSpark: Why would you want to be called Sparky if your name is iSpark?

Triumph 12-08-2009 05:47 PM

2GB is enough for CAD on XP, so it's enough for games on XP. 4GB will become the norm shortly.

If you plan on upgrading to Vista/7, then you will need 4GB.

Andromeda 12-08-2009 06:13 PM

Having 2GB of RAM in your graphics card is kinda pointless at the moment only if you really plan to run numerous high detailed games at once. 1GB is more than enough and if you ever find that you may go over that you can enable shared memory so your computers ram is shared with your card but I would only use this option if your computer has a good amount of RAM in it.

Lirange 12-08-2009 11:06 PM

Oh, I meant the 2gb memory x]
Thanks guys, I need a couple extra bucks but i'm sure I can get it before the sale ends.
