i suck at making siggies to D:
and i hate following tuts, the end result always end up looking nothing at all like what it looks like in the tutxD but i do learn some cool tricks when i read the tut |
Watching tuts about tools first would also be helpful if you haven't done that~ When I was first starting I would always go on youtube and search for tutorials like "How to use Pen Tool in Photoshop" "How to use gradient tool in Photoshop" "How to blah blah blah in Photoshop", but you guys just reminded about layer masks and channels... which I should learn cuz I think you can make a lot with them x3
|
You Suck at Photoshop series = win.
Most techniques shown aren't very practical for signature making, but it's still a pretty good series. |
OMG I loved watching that! xDD It was hilarious.

Sparky... you fail D: YOU DON'T MAKE OVER SIZED SIGS, YOU FAIL! IDC IF YOU DONT THINK ITS A SIG.. ANYTHING IS A SIG
|
|
oh cool i might have a look at that 2night~
|
I've never used Photoshop.

MWAHAHAHAH I d/l these brush and it was like.. dab, dab, motion blur, overlay.. and ta-da! A background HAHAHA I need a border... and need to find a better font / colour... but i'm pretty proud of my new techniques haha |
Personally, I think the default fonts work best for signatures.
|
just keep it simple?
I might try that... |
:O
wow that's really good, much better than me and you just started now you can enter SOTW! |
That font... something sunrise. Lol
Masks are a way of working non-destructively as my instructors like to say. After I've been taught that I've been using that and the pen tool for everything I need. I've never really read tutorials and I just can't most of the time. Trial and error is the best. Playing with blending modes and then the opacity is good too. Cropping is also another way to make your work dynamic. You don't always have to use the full body. Play around with how much you can take out and still be able to 'see' what it is. |
Nub question:
I have a sprite that I'm trying to paste into a new layer. But after I paste it in, I want to move it around but it won't let me... x.x Heelp? |
Thats a really good start Hessah!! For simple borders, make a new layer, press ctrl+A (which selects all), go to edit, then click on stroke, just a simple 1px border would be good for that sig, and select center, then ur done :P

In the tute that I saw, the mask layer has a black and white area to it (i guess it's used like the way that Enraya explained?) But I couldnt get the black and white happening.. but i wont worry too much about that for now.. i think it's too advanced for me at this stage LOL @ Lirange - my siggy is so random.. i thought it looked really cool last night, but i looked at it again this morning and it wasnt as great as i remembered HAHAHA Did you make your current siggy? |
Don't you wish your art skills were hot like mine~
|
don't cha~

Ur.. Yeah. I actually IMed Hessah and she fixed it for me... haha xD She just told me to hold down Ctrl and drag.
She's actually pretty pro at the beginner stuff. |

I know the shortcuts and stuff, I just didn't know how to make use of them xD |

^WOWOWoowowoOWWOWOW
Nice!!!!!!!!!!! |
LOL thank you Ralath~ You're gonna give me a big head~
|
Kekekekeke. We can just trade each other compliments. xD
|
Now only my Nana siggy..
-blank- |
HAHAHA @ trading compliments xD Very nice!
Siggies with real people are hard.. |
Hmm yeah.. i just did one.. it doesnt look very clear.. but then the picture quality was prety crap to start off with...
|
You can try sharpening the image.
|
that's already sharpened twice...
actually it looks kinda OK... the other screen was blurry so it looks extra bad xD I should try find a picture with a bigger head.. |
On a different note, it looks like her hand is floating in mid air. o_o
|
hahahaha yeah she's actually leaning on a table... and then.. i think i didnt crop it properly or got smudged.. her wrist disappeared @_@
|
WOW I like the Nana sig a lot Hessah! :D What I do a lot with my manips (especially real people and horses), I smudge the character. If the render/pic is naturally big (2500px or bigger), then I might skip that step, but if it's smaller, then I'll have to smudge it. If you find that the picture you cut out is really bitty, choose the blur tool, set it to anywhere around 10-20% (try 10% first), lock pixels on the layer, and smudge. It gives off a really amazing smooth effect if done well. The pic you used seems to be of a really bad quality Hes. ^^; I can see the all the bits LOLOL. xD -counts them- |
HAHA cool!
I'll have to re-read your post a few times and try that out... I think the pixels got worst when I sharpened it too... and then all that colouring made it less and less clear... This was the original pic... I know~ I think coz I strinked it too trying to fit her skirt in.. I might try it agian with a different picture tmr... i've got one with a bigger head so many that'll work better.. (just that it has a very messy background and I'm not looking forward to erasing the background...) Although I'm quite happy with the way it kinda blend into the red (eventhough its a bit too bright) xD I'm having fun~ So do you have to sharpen it again or anything after you smudged it? |
Oh WOW! That was the original pic?! Your cutting is VERY good LOL. xDDD You should have seen some of mine when I first started hahaha... -facepalm- Nope! Smudging at a very low % will get rid of the pixels, and retain the picture (unlike if you smudged at 80% or something, that will go crazy. =_=). Just smudge along with the flow, and it'll turn out well. xD |
Ohh like those really pixelated ones?!
Maybe like this one? Damn her arm is leaning or something again... |
I actually really like the way it's turned out. I personally don't have too much issues with the edges.
Only thing would be text~ I think it stands out too much and it's too big. I would use a pretty small font~ As for the hand.. hmm.. well I didn't think it was too bad when I looked at it, cos it looked like she was leaning on the render or something, but if you wanna try something out, I would try um.. hm.. how do I explain.. OK I did a rough one on your sig to show you what I kind of mean: http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w.../Nana-Mika.png Add a gradient or some sort of texture that acts like the thing she's leaning on? How I did it was.. 1. Create a new layer (and put it underneath your nana stock) 2. Select white as foreground colour. 3. Click gradient tool. 4. Make sure the gradient colour is white > transparent (adjusted in the top right corner). Play around until you get the right amount of gradient. 5. Apply gradient downwards (hold shift so that your gradient is straight) 6. Use select tool to delete the top half. 7. Reduce opacity (if required/you want to). 8. Get a laaarge sized eraser, put it to 0% hardness (for edges) and then use the edge of eraser to rub out sides of the white gradient soflty so it doesn't stick out the whole way... it looked like it was cutting the sig in half when I didn't rub it out. There's probably more ways to make it look a little better but that'll require some experimenting xD You might wanna play around with it ab bit so it blends better, like maybe blurring it a bit so it's not so sharp (dunno how that'll look) etc~ And you don't have to do it, just an idea that might work. It would also make a nice excuse for putting text on, haha, so you can put the text lined in with the horizontal line (nana on top, Mika Nakashima below the horizontal line) or something like that~ So the text doesn't look too randomly placed. But I like what you got xD |
Is www.sigtutorials.com working for you guys?
