The day before yesterday was the 30th December. Yesterday was the 31st December and Ella's 12th birthday. Today is January 1st and this year, on 31 December Ella will be 14 NEXT year, on 31st December, Ella will be 15.

except yesterday = 31st Dec = Ella's 13th Birthday

30th Dec = Ella was still 12
31st Dec = Ella turn 13
1st Jan = Today
31st Dec this year = Ella turn 14
31st Dec next year = Ella turn 15

but that's probably just a typo from Navman... concentrating too hard on his deep manly voice....
