I'm pretty sure you don't need people spend $20 every month for some items that are very useful to those of us who stockpile materials and what not. See, thats where they get ya. They say its "free to play". But what happens when you need an item that has a timer on it? You have to pay again and again and again. So basically they've got a secret little way of turning "free to play" into "play to play".

no one is making you buy the items so no, it is free to play
its your choice to pay for the items

Loveless 10-19-2007 02:59 AM

Again, they're not forcing you to pay again and again. It's really up to you in the end. You shouldn't exactly say crap about those spoiled kids or whatnot because they are helping you to keep the game f2p.

Hessah 10-19-2007 03:14 AM

do u know how much it cost to hire people?! actually this will be hard coz we're talking about difference currencies.. but there isnt a big diff btw AU$ and US$ so i guess its ok..

Take my company for example, we've got 12 people, and we're paying $40k a month to keep these people working. And most of us earn only average salaries. If you've got 1000 people playing, each person will need to spend $40 a month to just pay for the salaries of these people, and you've got rent, server cost, electricity and other overhead cost.. before you can start making profit.

AND not all 1000 will pay for the game so they probably need a population of 1500 players to break even... blah blah blah blah... too much assumptions, too much maths.

Just wanna let you know, you havent got one person working for this game, you've got a team of people, $5000 wont be enough to support a game for a month.

And as the others hv mentioned, you can still play for free. You can level, grind, go KQ, enhance weapons. They just gave you the extra option to enhance your playing experience if you're willing to fork out some cash.

MagesRequiem 10-19-2007 05:00 AM

Thats funny... you say it costs so much money to do this but how exactly are they paying for all of this now? Hm?

Hyper 10-19-2007 08:24 AM

Hm. I can't wait, and I think you can stop having a fit about rich whore children ruling the game. Having wings, devil outfits, and special houses doesn't make you any better. Last time I checked, a level 50 could destroy a level 30, +9 weapon or not. And don't lay down crap about how much money things are, and how they're unaffordable. During my summer job I could easily make over 100 USD per day, if I worked part of the day. What, you don't/didn't have a job? I suggest getting one instead of getting pissy on online forums. If I want to spend a small fraction of that for some enhancing stones, I don't see why other people can't, and I don't see how that gives me too much of an edge over you.

In the Korean game its a different story. About 99+% of the popuation in KR has cash shop overload. There are so many +9 weapons for sale, that it isn't funny. Despite me not knowing Korean, and not being able to understand what they say, no one yet has acted like an idiot to me. I honestly wish I could say the same for the North American version. There are hardly any people below level 40, and I usually enter Roumen (in Korean-friendly time) and there are about 5-10 other people, not counting a few shops. Why? They take it way more seriously. They are fine with forking over a few dollars for an hour of enjoyment, and they have a right to it. It seems like when money is involved, people become more serious.
If cash shop can somehow slam some intelligence into the noobs here, I say more power to it!

I'm not experienced in business areas (I hate commerce!!), but I'm assuming every business will have to spend a certain amount of money to get it up and running, so I assume it's the same for this?

I mean, you can't go and start a business with no money. I'm sure whoever started it had made sure he/she had sufficient funding and stuff before making the game. Then they have those .. um .. financial budget/planning crap (don't ask me for technical jargons Dx) which helps plan the income stuff for the future. They'd have enough money to start the game and have it running for a bit, but the can't do this forever.

But anyway, I'd say we can't say much until cash shop really does come out. We're all assuming it's going to be overpriced and stuff, but we could be wrong.

Ryoji 10-19-2007 04:56 PM

Games like Fiesta, Flyff, and 2 moons are called Micro games. It's free to play but a cash shop is there to fund for the game. The only other major type of F2P game doesn't rely on cash shops at all. They rely on advertising within the game. If you have ever played a game like that you would agree having a Cash shop is better. The constant advertisments are quite annoying.

Micro games tend to attract a lot more people and do much better off than other games. As for how Outspark has money it's exactly what Blaaaah had stated, the company already has enough money to probably be funded for atleast a year on its own.

Cash shop kiddies will probably be the best off out of everyone, and pretty much change the economy of the game as soon as the shop is realised. Loads of people are gonna be pissed but over all if you enjoy the game now than you'll be fine later.

Lucky me I can't wait for the shop to come out because I've always been a cash shop whore:D

Spirit 10-19-2007 05:00 PM

I for one will be one of those that takes Full advantage of the cash shop. I can't wait to see what is going to be in it, and I hope that it comes out real soon.
Does anyone have any ideas about when??????

Lyoven 10-19-2007 05:03 PM

well my point is that these items seem a way too powerul

Ryoji 10-19-2007 05:09 PM

Well if I'm gonna be paying my hard earned money(which isn't so hard earned but shhhhhh) I am gonna want good items. If they expect to make sales than they have to make great items. Also anyone will be able to buy these items, but the majority will have to be buying it from the people who spend real money. Which means they set the price and you have to deal with it, which will suck for lots of people but it is their money after all.

I for one will be buying lots fo stuff but mainly it'll be for myself only, and friends for presents and what not.

Lady-Loki 10-19-2007 07:49 PM

I wanna buy pink pigtails. :p

Okay, now you've pissed me off. First of all, I do get upset when rich spoiled brats can purchase all this crap because a lot of times the items they purchase have something that give them an unfair advantage over them. Obviously if a level 30 with a +9 weapon were going against a level 50 with an un-enhanced weapon, the level 30 would still be defeated. Thats a 20 level difference right there. Not to mention you have to take their classes into account. But thats not the point. The point is my fun in a game is ruined when I am constantly destroyed by others or when others sit there and brag about how their rich and spoiled.

Why don't I get a job and waste my paycheck on a game? Well, gee, lets see... could it be because my family is poor?! Oh yes! Thats it! My family is poor and any money I earn has to go to them. I don't have spare cash to spend on a stupid game that i'll someday stop playing. Maybe you've got that kind of money but I don't. So next time before you open that big fat mouth of yours you should think about what you're going to say. I deal with enough idiots in the game I do not need you starting shit with me on a forum I enjoy coming to.

as Blah said.. i wont be surprised if Outspark has a sponsors that's helping them out through this "research" period.. and they'll be expecting a return once its ready to run probably with the cash shop.

To illustrate better for you, your ipod (if you've got one) didnt just magically appear in the Apple stores for you to buy. They did research, made prototypes, designed, and checked all the technical issues before they released it as a product. They wont be so profitable today if they hadn't done the research years ago.

Back on topic: i think the cash shop will just make price of weapons go bizzerk coz there'll be lot more +7 +8 +9 available... but i'm looking forward to that! my hammer is so boring looking!

Dude MagesRequiem Just Owned you

Hessah 10-19-2007 09:47 PM

dont say that.. i dont think ppl who's sitting on their fat bum, calling those ppl's who work for their own money as "spoil brats" owned at all.

Ryoji 10-19-2007 09:53 PM

I know I can't wait for this to come out. It doesn't give a unfair advantage at all. People can still buy the stuff they just have to use in-game money. Every micro game I have played the top ten richest people never baught anything from the cash shop. They just knew how to play the game.

I just can't wait to get my hands on some of the items they are gonna have...saying Ms.Wendy doesn't take it away from me.

Hessah 10-19-2007 10:35 PM

Hello there peterpan! buying things from cash shop? have u got my permission?! -twist ears- ok i let go if you buy that costume for me XD

yeah i think i'll be more tempted in getting the cool shroom and customes than enhancing stones.... and a pet!! the boogies looks mad!!

Ryoji 10-19-2007 10:41 PM

I hope they have the Dragon looking thing that GMs ride around on. I know there are gonna be mounts but I really want a dragon.

No, he didn't own anyone. He pitched a fit, like a spoiled little brat. He overreacted to a discusion, and reverted to name calling like a child. He is taking his unhappiness with his life out on everyone in the game and on this forum.
I will personally be one of those Spoiled Little Rich Brats that will buy what I want and when I want with the money I make from my job, even if it is on a game that I will only play for a little while, because it brings me enjoyment right now. Next month, I may spend my hard earned money on something else that brings me joy. I'm sorry that he cannot find joy in anything, even a Game.

Lady-Loki 10-20-2007 03:29 AM

Please!

@ MagesRequiem

If you get this angry over people having the ability to buy things in a game I have to wonder if you get this angry in real life when people buy things?

Have you always been this angry that the world and all in it is not equally distributed? Trust me; you have the ability to change your own situation with perseverance and determination. This I speak from experience having grown up in a poor family with seven kids in it. We had little to nothing, but I didn't harbor bitterness and resentment towards everyone who had anything but rather focused my energy on bettering my situation. I was still poor when I first left my parents home and went out on my own. I even had to get government assistance for a short period of time. But I was determined to make my situation better and I persevered until I accomplished that. You should really try to refocus your anger and resentment and put that energy into making things less stressful for you and all those around you. Don’t get so worked up over things you cannot change. The fact that others can and will buy from the cash store is one of those things you cannot change. Use that energy to do as Ryoji referred to:

And your siggy says:

"Knowledge is mankind's greatest weapon.
And ignorance is our greatest enemy." ~Me

Use your knowledge to master the game and exercise some clever and skillful marketing skills. That and be nice and make good [real] friends and the friends will be there to help you. And I do mean real friend, not just any and everybody on your friend list. I mean friends that will give to you as much as you would give to them. But remember, friendship is two-way, you can’t always be on the receiving end, you have to give in return.

And, yes, I will buy from the cash shop – one because can afford to and two because I am most likely not as knowledgeable in mastering the intricacies of the game as you probably are.

Bottom line; please don’t be so angry and bitter. It’s not good for the spirit and soul.

Fit? Heh. Is that what you old fossils call it? There was no discussion when a post is directed at me in a hateful manner. Looks who's talking hypocrite? Calling me a spoiled little brat is name calling. Maybe you should do exactly what I told that other kid to do. Think before you speak. I never said anything about adults or anyone who earns the money themselves. Hell, if you earn the money yourself then by all means, waste it on a game. Thats fine. You earned it, its yours to do whatever you want with it. The spoiled little rich brats I was referring to are the kids who's Mommy and Daddies have just an absolutely limitless amount of money to spend, burn, etc. And what do those little kids do? They go and brag and show off and insult those who can't afford it. Actually, I find plenty of enjoyment in this game and many other games.

But how would you feel if you were to go against people who beat you every single time, eh? Or if you had to listen to some kid brag about he's better than you because he's spoiled and gets whatever he wants? It might not affect you because you haven't dealt with it as much as I have. But it does affect me and my enjoyment of game. I'll still enjoy this game no matter what. Oh and stop this bullshit "Because i'm older than you, you're a kid" act. I'm 18, I may not be that old but thats plenty old enough to know how the world works.

Beat you at what? PvP? Last I checked, most of the game is completely non-competitive so I don't understand what you're complaining about. If you're in a party or KQ with people who spend money on CS items then you should be happy. Faster EXP + easier KQ = bad?

MagesRequiem 10-20-2007 04:09 AM

I'll explain everything later. This was never meant to get out of hand. I got attacked because people enjoy misconstruing my words. Anyways, i'm sorry to you all.

Hyper 10-20-2007 04:21 AM

On topic: I forget if you already put it up there, but there is an item needed for changing hair/eyes. It is fairly cheap and it *might* come in multi-packs. I dunno, because I'm not sure what it looks like. ^^

I have seen items in shops that have an icon of a head, so that might be them. I averaged the prices of the ones I saw in town shrooms, and it was exactly 500c each. Not too bad for a lot of customization!

Actually, I think people are just tired of posts like that. (As was I.) Most people don't constantly post like that. As Blaaahs says, there have been multiple flammin threads. *No angery response needed. Time to let it drop.*

Has anyone really insulted you IG about things like having more money? I don't see how they could have if Shop isn't even out... I guess I can see that happening in n00b Maple or Silk Road, but I don't see it happening to that high a degree in Fiesta.

From what im gathering i think the MagesRequiem is trying to say is:

That Spoiled kids with alot of moneyw ill buy almost all the items, and this will give them a slight advantage over people who maybe dont have a rich family.

Also if those kids are very full of themselves thjen they will take no time to start bragging and criticizing to people who dont have those items.

Pretty much like this guy called 'Rusk' who was in ym last KQ. He was a nebie archer with only the newbie clothes nothing else, and he says he deals the msot damage out of everyone here, then he shoots loads of monsters and leads them to me -_-
But I Digress, Basically all he emans is that Spoiled kids will probobly bragg and ruin the game for the rest of us.

EDIT:
Whoops, sorry Blaaah didnt see your post.

I saw Steam using the Halloween 1h Sword and Shield the other day. Unfortunately, I was not able to get a screenshot. I wonder if they'll also have costumes out as well? I'm going to have to find a way to get some of that stuff. It looks pretty sweet. And... also... Halloween is my favorite Holiday and stuff like that is my kryptonite. I think we might be getting a certain Halloween present this year...
As soon as we do, I'm stockpileing on Halloween swords/shields/maces & hammers, for:
1. Cheap Enhancing

2. Major money for resale once Hallows Eve passes.

If they don't, I will seriously be bummed. D: This is my favorite holiday!
