Yeah, that was my method when pulling out loose teeth, I'd eat candy like that. Its sticky and molds around the tooth, and its tough, so when you chew you end up pulling the tooth out. But be careful or else you'll chew on the tooth ;p bleh.

When chewing taffies, there is also the danger of pulling your tooth out and then shoving it back in, but the wrong way, resulting in you cutting your gums...

when I was around 5 until 8, I pull out my own loose tooth, it was so fun :P, but no more loose tooths to pull out :/. When I was 6, maybe 7, I had a loose tooth, and I tried pulling it off, but it doesn't work, idk why that tooth won't come off, so I ignored it. Next day, my mom took me to eat McDonalds, and I was eating the burger, the tooth came off, and I swallowed it..o.O..I felt it go down my throat and I felt no tooth at the tooth place, or socket, or w/e you call it.
