I never noticed that house, but now I have to go look for it.

Hope you plan to write more to the story cuz it's not nice to just let it end there.

So noone will ever come resue the children? Oh sad. What if a good-being was to have come and rescued the children, defeated the evil-being, and then sealed the house back up so that noone could ever enter it again?
That would explain the no hole or door theory.
