Yea it's pretty simple for a bass. But well in an orchestra, you're supposed to have memorized some parts of the piece so you can look up and stuff. But we usually look up only after we've played our part so we can wait for the conductor to call us in again later.

yeah. I was always told to look up so i could keep time, but god damn, the time signature is on the sheet of paper in front of me, why isn't that good enough?

LOL! Maybe they were worried that you will lose track of counting the number of whole bar rests. XD

thats why i look up when i'm not playing.

they tell me to look up when i am playing and i say I'm the bass line, everyone follows my time anyways. GG to the conductor, i win.

pluck pluck play rest rest rest rest rest rest rest rest rest rest rest rest rest play. Its because bassists are idiots, they cant handle more than that.

twas an easy position. performances were retarded, but practice was fun. We'd go do sectionals and the bass line would just play for like 2 minutes then goof off for an hour.

Oooo yeah that makes sense.. the conductor are for those who's about to play their part... LOL and with a concert on DVD, they would've filmed ppl that are playing rather than ppl that just stood there waiting for their turns LOL

cool! i'm now convinced that a conductor is needed LOL

for those imbetween times when the bass is doing the rest rest rest rest rest rest..........

When I was in chorus, our conductor did that.. he never told us why, and we never used it. Except for when he wanted us all to suddenly stop in sync.
