They delivered a $3.25 sandwich for free? It's hard to imagine that. Most places I know have a minimum order required. The thing is, if you plan on ordering more from this place, you've done yourself a great favor. You might not need to tip quite so much of a percentage, but if you're known as someone who tips generously, drivers will fight for your stop and sometimes bring freebies. I used to work at a place where I couldn't leave the site for 48 hours. Sometimes, instead of bringing my food, I'd order out. The places around got to recognizing my address and they started bringing me 2-Litre drinks, coupons for free food (the, ooops! We made a mistake! cards), even a couple of times the Dominos guy would run by the place after closing with free pizzas that would have been trashed.
That said, I was tipping about $5 on a $25-30 order. In general, I tip 15% for good service at places I don't plan on going to a lot and 20% (or more) on places I frequent. |
I always tip $5 regardless of how much my food costs.

Kay, I think I'll tip a dollar or two next time. Including the change. And yeah, it's a delivery so you have to tip them unless you want to seem like a jerk, and especially since delivery is free it'd be just rude not to. I ordered again and so did my sister and I felt bad because I just told him to keep the change and it was only 75cents. G__G

I've noticed that there's not much of a tipping culture here in the middle-east. People appreciate it now and then, but there's an implicit feeling in some places that you don't have to tip at all. Very diferent from US.

From what I gather, it's something of an insult in Europe.

But I had a really embarrassing experience once. Back in high school, I went out with a small group of friends. This girl was craving something at some ice cream/dessert place, so we went to eat. We all ordered ice creams at the counter (so we paid already) while she was the only one that ordered a dish that costed something like $XX.95. When she paid the bill, she paid the rounded up amount (say, if it was $14.95, she paid $15). The waitress collected it, and we continued to sit there chatting. We sat there for quite a while that it made me feel a little weird. Even though the place was empty, I didn't feel right about still sitting there since it's not the type of place for you to sit and chat like cafes. I also noticed the waitress looking at us every now and then, and then finally she came back with that 5c change. And omg, my friend took it and we stood up to leave! God I was so embarrassed! Not sure if she's still like that though. Maybe (hopefully) it was just the young factor. |
^What a cheap friend!!
It's not common to tip in China. :/ |
Haggling on the other hand... xD

I've read that in most cases in the UK, the tip is automatically added to the tab. If you didn't like the service though, you can ask for that amount back o_o
