It is you can't fast forward or rewind you have to watch the whole thing from the beginning that's why I had to install the FLV player because it was such a pain watching FLV files on the VLC player.

Just tried it out with a downloaded FLV file (from YouTube) and VLC 1.0.0 allows you to seek to any point in the file.

Hmm that's why I'm using version 0.8.6.0

Well VLC is awesome but still has bugs to be sorted out Im glad that was fixed.

Yep. It certainly isn't an end-all-be-all player, but it is a nice, simple solution for people that don't want to futz with codecs. I like how it handles mkv files, too.
