http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-03-0...gaming/5306534

Not that my parents had ever been hard and said gaming is useless.. (in fact my dad games himself LOL)

But I thought it's kinda interesting that from two different source, both talked about how gaming isn't a bad thing..

I should send it to my friends, who nags their husbands LOL

Blaaaaaaaah 03-10-2014 03:22 AM

lol, I was playing LoL the other day and went down for a lunch break... was watching TVB commericals and one was of a documentary about gaming (assuming about how gaming is bad) and they used LoL as an example...

Hessah 03-10-2014 03:49 AM

LoL is the new Dota!?

Blaaaaaaaah 03-10-2014 04:04 AM

hahaa no idea, maybe it's just more popular in HK. some HK person actually go into the TW team to become competitive....

But then again I don't know if the same applied to starcraft or dota or whatnot in HK.

a.L 03-10-2014 06:14 AM

One of HK dudes who played for a Taiwanese team ended up winning the season 2 championships. He got a lot of hate from Taiwanese people and he retired a few months ago because the hate directed towards him was so bad that he could barely sleep anymore. Also, he developed carpal tunnel syndrome

Hessah 03-10-2014 09:52 AM

People like that isn't helping our case that gaming can be a good thing... keke

Blaaaaaaaah 03-10-2014 08:15 PM

gaming is the same as any other occupation.. you will always get injuries relating on your occupation (be it sport or office or labour related) unless you live like a healthy person where you exercise / stretch often etc which isn't a given anymore.

I'm hoping it's just that this whole competitive gaming thing is still in the early stages so the things people are doing aren't very 'forward-thinking' yet... when I read interviews about how they 'train' like 16 hours a day or whatever, that's unhealthy for any activity you are doing. Hopefully people will realise and start coming up with normal 'training' routines.

a.L 03-10-2014 11:59 PM

A lot of the better profession Korean LoL teams have life coaches and stuff who encourage them to do some physical activity as well. Some of them are taken to do kick boxing or taekwondo. They also have people to cook healthier meals for them everyday.

They can afford all this because the big teams are sponsored by the biggest companies - it would be like Telstra or Optus sponsorships for us

Hessah 03-11-2014 12:29 AM

WOWOW I didn't know people can play professional gaming and be paid to game and get fed....

Now that's an example of the direction professional gaming is evolving to... although at the same time I think it's pretty sad if you need to be babysat like that... LOL

I wonder if other sports like tennis players have a specialised cook. I wouldn't be surprised if they have meal plans or something but to have someone hired to cook for them...

I told dad this before and he said he would sponsor me if I was good enough to win big money.

LOL

We have a cook at home too (coughmumcough) so I'm all good to go.

Ralath 03-11-2014 01:58 AM

lolll ahaha. I can see KT getting popular online/becoming a popular streamer.

Not as a pro, or anything. But more like being doing stuff like, "Oops, just fired my Lux laser in the wrong direction." lol

Blaaaaaaaah 03-11-2014 02:18 AM

Blaaaaaaaah 03-11-2014 02:19 AM

Blaaaaaaaah 03-11-2014 02:39 AM

omg lmao even wikihow has a guide:
http://www.wikihow.com/Become-a-Pro-Gamer-for-MLG

do you think that LoL is one of the first few games to make it "big" in the US? Or would it be like.. starcraft and WoW or w/e (I don't know if WoW even has tournaments). I assume they're popular in korea but not sure about the US.

^ so true, happens a lot where I work because I'm surrounded by people who don't know much about asians... literally got the "where are you from from" question before!

Once, this man from the printing company that we are a client of dropped by to see how we were in the new year, and he asked me "so did you go back home for christmas?" and I was like "uhm.. no? I was the one who went back to adelaide" and he goes "oh I thought you went back home"

And I was sooooo confused cos I was thinking how on earth do you go on holiday back to home...... when my friend explained to me later he probably meant china as my home. Which really pissed her off for thinking we don't belong here LOL.
